A Labor Day Weekend Hike

What to do on this Labor Day weekend? Go for a hike around Merrill Creek Reservoir ! It has been many years since we circled around this reservoir and today turned out to be a great day to do it.

From the visitor parking lot through the first mile or so through the woods it was extremely quiet today.

Even though it is the first week of September there were plenty of wildflowers to be seen. I really need to get a app to identify all the wildflowers.

Watch out for the Bald Eagles! If you like spotting birds then this is the place for you. There is always a group of people here with spotting scopes and binoculars in hand keeping track of whoever passes through. Here is also the first signs of fall, many leaves are starting to turn into their bright colors before descending on the forest floor beneath them.

Happy Birthday Shadow and everything February

Happy Birthday Shadow !! The month starts off with Shadow's (one of our three dogs) birthday. We adopted her when she was a little over a year old and has been a great dog ever since, to be honest she does have one annoying habit like making noises in the car when going to the park but we still love her.
Next up, what is Mr. Puxatony Phil going to see or not see for that matter. No shadow?? So six more weeks of this cold hard winter we are having. To be honest I think this time he was wrong, it has been the mildest of winters that I can ever remember.
Ok, now that spring is around the corner that can only mean a couple of things.. Ribbit.. Ribbit. According to Conserve Wildlife Foundation of New Jersey the frogs and salamanders need some help crossing busy roadways. After attending a class / orientation on Amphibian Crossing we are set to help these creatures cross roadways on rainy nights in easy spring. More details in a later blog to see how we did.
We are always looking for a new place to go hiking, I forget how I found this place but it looks to be a winner as far as hiking is concerned. The Mariton Wildlife Sanctuary in Easton, PA offers many miles of hiking. One of the areas is by the power lines that look promising for bird watching come spring.
The month of February ends a little on a low note, Ginger and I have had colds for the past couple of weeks. Looks like this has been going around throughout our workplaces.
Can't wait for longer days and warmer weather.

What happened to January?

Where to begin? The new year started, had a post holiday get together with some old coworkers, a unexpected drive to Florida to see my Father, a look to see what was new at the RV show.
Ok, so after the ball dropped I met up with some ex? older? coworkers, Ok people who I once worked with. We always meet at the same place we have for years, same day of the week, same time. I guess it is just easier that way. The stories are pretty much the same also, we state how good we had it back then and how much things change every year. I can't complain, the people who I work with now are just as nice. Anyhow it's great to see everyone even though I do see most of them individually throughout the year.
Next stop Florida, had a little scare here with my Father going in the hospital with aspiration pneumonia. The problem was that he was not responding to the antibiotics that they were giving him. There was much concern if we was going to come out so I hopped in the car and drove down to see him, unfortunately I could not stay as long as I wanted to due to a impending snow storm that we were going to have that weekend. Well the good news, he is doing much better and the snow only lasted a day and melted within a week.
The great winter RV show. Well it was not that great. This is a trip that I take with my Father-In-Law and one of my friends. We walk in and out of around fifty RV and pick out the things we like and dislike. It's always funny to see the salesman's eyes light up when the see my Father-In-Law walking down the isle, "LOOK" a guy in his seventies, he must want one and have a checkbook in his pocket. I guess you have to be there.. I don't think I saw one unit that caught my eye, most did not have brochures in them or cabinetry would be broken. Really? You could not fix that before going to the show? Hey if anyone is reading, start bringing some smaller campers to the shows, not everyone wants a motorhome.
